Hooch’s Story
Hooch is an amazing dog. He is full of energy and love. Like most rescues, we aren’t 100% sure where Hooch’s story begins, but we do know where he is now.
When Hooch was around 2 years old he ended up in the custody of the Chicagoland Dog Rescue, located in Schaumburg, Illinois. Thankfully for everyone, he wasn’t there for very long.
I was actively looking for a new dog. Just a few months ago, my first dog passed away peacefully, and she was a boxer. In my mind, I needed another boxer; nothing else is just quite the same.
Boxers are sweet, sweet dogs. Their breed fits perfectly with my personality. We even share that red/brown hair.
When I first saw Hooch, he was wearing a bright red bandana and was “army crawling” on the floor towards prospective new families. He stole my heart away.
Previously my mom and I almost adopted a pit bull puppy. I don’t believe there is anything wrong with pit bulls, but boy, this puppy had much more energy than I could handle. Also, the foundation she was being sponsored through was very invasive asking me inappropriate questions, and that turned me off from adopting through them.
While Hooch is always overfilled with vast amounts of energy, I can handle it. He was already house trained and was just overall the cutest thing I’ve just ever seen. I call him my “mini” boxer since he’s only 50-pounds compared to the 80+ pounds some boxers can get to. Since he is a boxer mixed with an unknown terrier breed, he’s got a unique face, that isn’t one only a mother could love. I boast that he’s the prettiest dog around; he even sits like a prince.
After meeting Hooch, we just knew that he was going to be the one for us. We were hesitant about getting another dog, though. Instead of outright adopting him, we decided to become his foster family instead since he really needed a home.
A week later he was running around in our, sadly, small backyard. He loves running, jumping, digging, and rolling around in grass. While he was quite hesitant towards us, he soon
warmed up.
He, understandably, wouldn’t cuddle with us right away. Hooch would jump and scurry away if we restrained him with love. But he’s grown out of that, thankfully!
The first night Hooch spent with us, we had him in a crate, and not sure what he would do. He was such a whiney baby, and I felt so bad. I ended up sneaking him into my room and he slept on my bed. My mom was so upset, but he was a good boy, so no harm, and no foul. From that point on, Hooch slept with me. I was his comforter. That was until he realized my mom was the food provider and ended up being her dog.
Hooch has been with us for about 4 years now and has grown to be such a lovely and stubborn and amazing dog. He is part of my family, and I am not sure where Hooch’s story would be now if we didn’t bring him into our lives.
